About UT Extension Perry County

The University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture created Extension to offer educational and practical information for rural families of Tennessee, including those in Perry County.

Resources for adults and families are divided into service areas of Family and Consumer Sciences, Agricultural and Natural Resources and Community Economic Development. Extension offers workshops, group sessions and written materials that offer people assistance for individual needs and community resource planning.

  • Agricultural and Natural Resources services are offered for both farmers and homeowners. Programs and educational support materials can help protect the environment and enhance production of whatever you are growing or raising.
  • The Family and Consumer Sciences helps with a wide range of specific needs. From parenting to general health and wellness to diet and food choices to money management, theFamily and Consumer Sciences division provides workshops, guidelines and assistance.
  • Community Economic Development workshops, guidelines and assistance is available to people interested in learning more about crop production, horticulture, livestock, agri-business and commercial horticulture, natural resources and environmental protection. The Community Economic Development division also provides ongoing leadership development skill building for those in agriculture who find themselves managing commercial and agri-businesses.

Extension also offers  4-H Youth Development. Designed for young people between 4th-12th grades 4-H  is most known for teaching agricultural techniques to the future farmers of our community in such things as bee keeping and dairy management, but it offers much more. The 4-H Youth Development program encourages young people to participate in a wide range of events that expose them to enrichment opportunities beyond the local community. Arts and theater, agricultural techniques, sports, and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) in addition to Leadership Development and exposure to government and policy making are just parts of the benefits of being a 4-H member.
