The Mixing Bowl got its start even before it officially had a name. Melissa Carroll, a lifetime resident of Perry County, is a nurse by trade but has always had a passion for cooking, baking, and feeding others.
Her adventure in cooking and baking for the public really took off in 2018 when she decided to set up a booth for the annual Blooming Arts Festival in downtown Linden. She offered a variety of her delicious cupcakes and signature mini cheesecakes, and customers loved them.
When the opportunity came along for Melissa to expand her business and set up shop in the Mainstreet Marketplace building, in the fall of 2018, she was successful there and her custom dessert order business took off along with a daily lunch special. In 2020, Melissa knew it was time to find a larger space better suited to accommodating the public and she opened the current location of The Mixing Bowl at 104 Poplar Street in Linden. Melissa and her sister, Marilyn who works alongside Melissa at her shop, look forward to continuing to serve the folks of Perry County through food and warm welcomes to all who visit The Mixing Bowl.
